windshield clips 700 1988

These clips at the bottom of the windshield, do they just hold the trim, or do they also hold the glass. Windshield was replaced, but aparently with broken clips. Can I go back and replace the clips? And how many do I need?

Seems like I need to learn how to replace glass, since it is yet another job you can't trust someone else to do.
