No; there was never any boards on PV 444 or 544. For a look on how the models evolued, have a look at http://www.norskvolvopvklubb.no/, then click "Endringer" (means "changes") for the different models. Suppose most of you won't get much out of the text which is in norwegian, but some of the photos are cool. In fact the exterior changed very little from 1944 to 1965, the most radical change was in 1958 when the split window disappeared when Volvo turned the 444 into the 544. Far more happened under the shell, motors, interior, suspension, brakes, steering etc. etc. changed runningly throughout these years.
