Really in trouble now , UPDATE TO GUTLESS

Well, lets assume the timing belt jumped a tooth or something. You can pull the cover, either single cover or 2 piece, as I don't know what car you have. Turn engine to line up crank pulley mark with 0 degree point, remove v-belts, remove timing belt cover, make sure distributor, if a 240, mark is lined up, and make sure camshaft mark lines up. If not, your in for a timing belt change out. Hope this helps.
