Answer to my intermitent starting:

My mechanic derived that the starter was to blame. New starter and I was all set to go! It sort of makes me feel better that it wasn't something I could have done myself (I don't have a garage or a hoist). I was afraid it would have been something very simple like running a wire, which would have made me feel like a baffoon.

Anyway, thought I would give a heads up to everyone.
