From my understanding all completed bodies got a body number - the slightly higher number on the firewall painted body color. All completed cars got a serial number with a sequential number as the suffix. I guess some of the bodies were not completed for some reason. Perhaps torn back apart for weld QC, perhaps damaged in factory incidents.
