I forgot to mention --

I'm pretty much at sea level and I've got 91 octane fuel from
chevron and some octane booster (lead substitute, really) in the
tank and it is *still* pinging.

Also, when it is clattering there isn't any smoke of any sort
coming out of the tail pipe and power remains quite smooth and
it doesn't seem to be missing.
