Not only are the 240 and 740's safe, Volvo makes the 120 series damn safe too. I was in an accident quite a few years ago in my '67 122 wagon. I was cruising through a green light and didn't have time to even hit my brakes when an old truck carrying pumpkins ran the red light and I broadsided him. Needless to say, smashed pumpkins filled the intersection, to say the least. I was not wearing a seat belt (not the law back then). I ended up curled up on the passenger side floorboard. I hit the windshield, got a few stitches on my forehead and some bruised ribs, but that's all!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had several Volvos: '58/444, '66/122, '67/122, '81/245 and my latest '89/745. I don't feel safer in anything else. The extra comfort and ease to work on keeps me a Volvo owner for life???
