Yes, painting the intake and valve covers orange have been proven to give performance gains.

Judging from that intake manifold, it looks like they put on an IPD turbocharger kit that was available around 1980 (I think), before volvo started turbocharing in 1981. engine looks like a 78, 79 or 80.
