What are you trying to clean off?
I use paint thinner for cleaning wheels as most wheel soil seems to be petroleum based.
I just washed 16 alloy wheels at the pressure car wash today in preparation for spring. (I really should wash then as soon as I take them off!) Only four more to go.
You could try turpentine or kerosene also, but clean them with paint thinner afterwards to get these off. Each will work on different problems, for instance, wood turpentine works on many tupes of glue, such as old glue from masking tape. I follow the paint thinner with enamel reducer before I paint.
