87 245 oil leak--please 'check my math'

Make sure you are not leaking at the very rear of the valve cover. There is rubber plug there which sometimes blows out. Oil will then run down the rear of the engine. It can be a catostropic leak but could also leak slowly.

The pan bolt threads and heads do not perform a sealing function. The seal is created by those bolts squeezing the pan gasket. You may try tweeking them slightly and equally.

Be glad it's not the rear main seal.
