I don't know if this will help or not, but I just took my 1992 240 to get emission inspected last Saturday and the car passed very easily. I've owned the car since 10/31/2000. I didn't do anything in preparation for the emission inspection. Within the past six months I have replaced the air filter. Within the past two years I've replaced the spark plugs, rotor, rotor cap, and fuel filter. Good luck.
