Search the archives on this site. There's a fair amount of info on this common problem for the 240s. Basically a very small, fragile plastic tooth or part of the gears that drive the odometer has likely broken. I've heard of some folks trying to fix it but the success rate isn't very high, although I have heard of one or two success stories. Maybe one of those success stories will respond to your post.
