You may have checked the obvious already but here goes.
Is the system charging?
Does the gauge indicate a positive charge when engine running?
Is the alternator belt slipping? (mine was the other day and I was running the battery down)
Are both positive and negative cables in good clean shape?
(a friend of mine found his negative cable completely corroded on the inside of the sheathing thus not providing an adequate ground)
When you disconnect and re-connect the battery do you hear anything turning on or see a spark? (may indicate a short somewhere)
