Overdrive problems

hey

242 is back running again and not leaking oil! Removed broken sender while engine and tranny were out of the car, thanks to John Laughlin!

Everything works great. OD engaged and disengaged good for the last week.
Took a trip to corvallis to visit a friend today.
and I tried to disengage the OD, but the RPMs didnt come up.
the light went off though, ignorantly I figured it was out of OD, when I really knew it wasnt. Put the car in neutral (M46) as that should disengage
the OD. But it didnt it seems. Had to decelerate enough to be in 2nd gear, and the car shuddered for a bit, pretty violently.

it was fine in town after that.
Coming home it was ok, although pushing the button disengaged the light but not OD. it was on in town, yikes. thankfully I knew enough not to put in reverse.
got back up to a high enough speed for OD. it engaged with the light, then I pulled the stick back to the back in 4th gear and it disengaged more reliably.
it is strange, taht before the work on the engine it worked fine engaging and disengaging.

seems like the 4th gear switch is worn, although it seemed fine before.
could wiring to the button, shorting on the body cause these symptoms?

thanks
take care

Luke
