steering play

First you should check you tie rod ends, innner and outer. The inners are part of the tie rod, the outers are seperable units.

The only other location for play are the steering column U-joints, top and bottom. These are also replaceable, but the top one is part of the aluminum shaft. The best was to feel looseness is to grab the U-joint while someone turns the wheel from side to side.
