I would flush it at least once with new oil, drain, refill. Make certain its clean and then keep a close eye on it. It could just be normal brass wearing off the synchro rings, hopefully it's not something more serious. The OD filter MUST be changed or you will soon kill that unit. See the 700 FAQ.
Hope it's nothing serious.
