Just a few weekends ago I put in my "A" cam. It was my first time doing a cam swap and I did have a buch of junkyard shims, and a volvo shim kit to make the swap easier. I only ended up using 3 new shims because all the junkyard shims were too thick. Also, if you don't have the Volvo valve compression tool, a VW valve tool and a long, thick flathead screwdriver will work with an extra set of hands. Interestingly, my car actually idles better now than before thanks to having the valves adjusted, but I think I might have actually downgraded because I had a "B" cam in the car. Oh well, it runs better and does seem happier higher up in the rpms.
