Busted Stud - what to do next? 700 1989

Sorry for the lengthy message. Best to have some background....

I started a turbo rebuild project. Overall, not too bad. . . but, it appears that the PO had someone perform this task already. They snapped a exhaust man stud and epoxied it back in. Nice. Unfortunately, it's the lower stud for #3 port. Now...how to attack. My plan up to this point was to change the oil adapter o-rings, motor mounts, timing belt and related front seals. The PO must have had some horrible mechs for their car. The timing belt topcover and backplate were broken and 'glued' back into place. These are also on the repair list.
Now that I need to remove a stud (oh joy), should I remove just the head or dive in and pull the motor? I can't get to it with a right angle drill...it's too tight. Unless I remove the exhaust pipe to cat...

If I pull the motor, I can also change the pan gasket and rear seal and reassemble the whole deal before dropping it back in. Not knowing the history of the pan gasket, I might have added it to the list as well before this stud appeared. I've read in the FAQ how it can be done in the car.

I was hoping to keep the costs down and get the car a bit updated and resealed, but now...?

I respect the crew on this list and look forward to the responses.
Thanks!
