Check out the connector that hooks the wiring harness on to the circuit board.

Set up the car so that the brake lights should be on. Then - without a helper -move the front seat a little forward and use the jack crank handle jammed between the pedal on the front of the seat to hold the pedal down. Go back and wiggle the two connectors and watch for changes.
