What engine oil? 1800 1970

I use 10W-40... if it stays in the motor pretty well, you might consider going to a synthetic oil.

If it leaks at the valve cover gasket, the usual cause is dimpling of the cover around the hold-down bolts. Then you try to tighten it further and the dimples get bigger. It's very easy to straighten the cover by supporting the dimpled edges upside down on a piece of wood and doing some careful hammering with a drift. Those little iPd gadgets that go between the bolt head and cover work well to prevent dimpling in the future, but you have to make it straight first.

With a alloy cover, I use the rubber gasket glued to the head.

New rubber gaskets for the oil filler cap are available. If it's not pretty stiff to turn it on and off, it's time for a replacement.
