Odometer Stopped Working/Started Working 700 1991

The other day I noticed that my odometer had ceased to count the miles. I began planning in my head the many trips to "Gary's U-Pull-It" looking for the right instrament panel. Then I remembered that I had just changed my oil and reset the "oil change"/service engine light about 100 miles ago. I know, "What? Five thousand miles between oil changes? Blasphamy!" Well, I do use synthetic and I figure if my Volvo says its good enough, hey, I trust it with my life, right? Anyway, just for the hell of it I reset it again and it began to roll! Anyone else have this happen? Is it a sign that it's about to chew a tiny odo gear?
