Don't throw it out! If you need to buy a replacement, you will have to shell out an additional $85 to $150 for the core charge.
Air Mass Meters are not cheap and the manufacturers are ANAL about getting the old units back so that they can be rebuilt. Whatever you do, don't throw out your AMM. Even my local scrap yard has a $50 core charge on an AMM. Even if you've already got a spare, I'm sure that there are people on this board who could use one as their core charge and thus keep a 'possibly' functional one at home and not risk giving up a potentially good one.
As far as rebuilding it, I don't know of any companies off hand that will do this, other than the manufacturers (Bosch, etc.). -and they'll just tell you to buy a new one and give your old one back as a core. That's how the circle of life works for an AMM.
God bless,
Fitz Fitzgerald.
