i recently pulled the wheel from my '68 122. yes-pry up the black plastic and you will see the four screws w/the springs behind them. remove them. use a 1 and 1/16" socket on the big nut. spray the splines behind it with penetrating stuff like Liquid Wrench. mark the wheel position. i used JC Whitney's puller #88UT7029X . it cost a whopping $4.99 and worked wonderfully. i put a socket under the center part of the puller so that it had a nice contact area with the threaded part of the column. i applied tension, waited, applied...after about 20 minutes it came off gracefully. i applied antiseize to my splines before reassembly.
