I recently fixed a broken odo (?) in my ~86 245 w/one of the gears Randy mentions: Cheap and easy fix for about $25. Jeff is responsive and helpful.
Take a good look or pix of the wiring connections before you disconnect the panel; try not to flex/twist your panel when you take it out; check/replace bad bulbs; look at the post about bypassing the temp. compensator board while you're in there.
