Hello Jack:

I would have to agree that this is electrical. There is no OBD port on this car. Things to do-- resolder the fuel injection relay, the radio suppression relay and electric fan relay (both on the coolant recovery tank under the hood-- identical, so you might as well do both). These kind of things are difficult to diagnose, but two electrical components worthy of your attention are the ignition amplifier (also called power stage, located on the driver side fender) and the RPM reference sensor on the bellhousing. Both cause these kinds of problems. The bad news is that the reference sensor is about $80 and the ignition amplifier is about $35. Both are straightforward to replace yourself.
