Rust and paint.... 200 1988

Hello,

IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU GET AT THIS. The reason why I am so adament about it is that there is likely corrosion oozing down the back side of the dash all over your fusebox as we speak and that will cause horrors I don't even want to think of.

You're going to at least have to take off the moulding or a portion of it to get at that rust. Just go to your local glass shop and pay them 20 bucks to pop off the moulding or at least find out if it can be removed in a manner that it doesn't break the clips. I have only replaced a Volvo windsheild once, and that time I replaced the moulding with 1.5 inch flush weatherstipping to cut down on noise.

Once you get past the moulding, there's enough of a gap to get a grinder or a rust removal attachment for your drill in there to rip out what rust you can get at. The next step would be rust primer/paint, and then treat it with some rust protection. Up here in Canada they sell this gooey, spray-on pink stuff called Rust Check. Find an equivalent.

The next step would be to crawl into the driver's footwell and pull off the kick panel and lift up the carpet. You may find the rusties lurking under there and in your fusebox. Clean the leak at the windshield, get rid of the rust and smear as much bathtub caulking as possible. Follow up with a fusebox cleaning and an inspection of all the other relays and electrical thingys that live under there.

Follow up in a couple of months to make sure everything works out.

Happy Bricking!!!
