Thanks for the thoughtful response and suggestions. I will go back and read the performance section again and see if it sparks anymore leads. To date I have replaced all high tension components (rotor, plugs, wires, cap, etc (not coil though). Also FPR, fuel filter, and injector seals. I have had the head done (unrelated issue). I have been running medium octane fuel without knocking (or pinging) but your point makes me wonder if the knock sensor mounting screw has backed off or ? The one most perplexing symptom is the intermitance. Also the notion that when this happens, I am literally under full boost (I run about 9.5 psi) and the car is not moving (any faster). Under this condition, it almost helps to back off the boost until the engine builds up more RPM but it is still suffering big time. One thing I am trying to put together is that the turbo will only boost when the FI senses that work is being done by the engine (you can't get the turbo to boost when at a stop) So, under this condition, the engine is definately sensing work and trying to compensate with fuel and air. This and the intermitancy lead me to wonder if this is the ignition module. Another thought I am haveing is the possibility of the throttle switch possibly failing intermitently. So far the switch has been good every time I test it. I am tring to figure out what signals I may be able to monitor while I'm driving that to indicate a change when this happens. It would be nice if I could somehow monitor the timing for a change only ( not actual reading) just to verify that this is the result of a timing change. BTW, I forgot to mention that I have a new knock sensor too.
Thanks again, I'll keep plugging away
