Oil filter adapter check valve ball. Now, what did I win?

Just for clarification, the "oil filter adapter" you were cleaning is an aftermarket kit, correct? If so, I am guessing that it is an oil by-pass check valve ball. Post the brand and if someone has the same, they may know. What is the dia of the ball? You may be able to check with the manuf.

Unless I am way off base with the "adapter" do not reinstall the adapter, other wise you will be bypassing the filter.

I think the only other ball barring (check valve)inside the engine in is in the oil pump.
