Speedometer works sometimes - likely culprit? 700 1986

Try a knock on top of the dash the next time it happens.

If it then works, it is most likely one of two problems.

The ground on the dash connector is dirty/bad and needs to be cleaned or the guage is sticking.

Mine sticks. I have a new movement for it but have been too lazy to put it in.
