yep, it does. it works by detecting knock through the engine block and retards the timing until the knock stops. for symptoms of a fault one, check http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/EnginePerformanceSymptoms.htm and do a word search for knock

most often characterized by poor fuel economy, lack of power....
