Go out and buy or borrow the Bosch FI book by Probst (Robert Bentley publishing). I believe he's the same guy that did the 240 bible.

Not much Volvo specific information, but lots of good design and theory for both pulsed and continuous injection. Volvo also has a few books out on the subject.

While EFI may be more boring to you, and even CIS-E may allow a failsafe operation... I can't imagine why you'd want to go back to CI. It's just awful. My next car will have LH-Jetronic injection for sure.
