Try grabbing the lever at the far edge and pulling it quickly. Mine did that for a while and that was the only way I could get it to open. Sometimes it would take two or three pulls with my finger TIPS to get it to grab. I finally had to replace the unit inside. But it lasted for two years and it drove every tech that worked on the car nuts. Because I was the only one that could easily get the door handle to work from the outside.
