mysterious 740 T brake problem

Gas is much more compressible, so yes, your pedal WILL sink to the ground when it heats up. What you described is basically what I suspect, except that your caliper pins don't even have to free up after they cool down. They might just cool down, and after driving around for a while and dragging, it just heats up the fluid.
