Engine Overheating 200 1985

Been there, done that. You need a new radiator. Most will start to fail exactly as you have described. After a few months it will start to overheat more and more until it does it soon after starting. The fan clutch ain't the problem, because it really only works at ~idle, not on the highway where airflow is not needed. If the thermostat was shot, it would overheat right away. AND you should put in the 190 degree one that is required or you'll always be running too rich. The antifreeze mixture ratio - forgeddaboutit.
That ain't gonna cause it to overheat. The ONLY thing that causes overheating is not being able to get rid of the btu's as necessary. Which is why the heater
fan has such a dramatic effect on the temp. It can only be a plugged rad or a stuck thermostat (or of course a broken water pump fan belt)... Believe me.
