When it gets worn you'll get a nasty sounding but not problematic clunk at idle. It sounds like a rod knock only it goes away off idle, unlike a rod knock which can happen at pretty much any rpm, usually on the overrun. But as mentioned, there really is no adjustment, just replace the brass thrust plate when there is too much.
