You may be only considering resale value.
A car has utility value also.
For example, consider a car that has $1000 resale value but comes with a 5 year, 50,000 mile warranty? Would it be worth more than $1000?
New parts have utility value also. I just had new rotors and pads installed on my 740 Turbo - for some time, it will brake like a new car.
I do not know how long you have owned your 1991 740t, and what condition it is in, but I'm sure that there is a possibility that it could need $6400 in repairs to make it as reliable and safe as Kenric's brick.
Of course, there is a possibility that all true brick lovers, including me, are sick in the head!
