coil failure again! 1800 1972

The original coil had a ballast resistor built in. Some aftermarket coils do, and some don't. Those that don't need an external ballast.

Disconnect both coil terminals and ohm across them. If you get about 3 ohms, the ballast is in the coil and I don't have a solution. If it's 1.5 ohms or so, you need an external resistor.
