CHECK ENGINE LIGHT PERSISTS???? 700

That sounds suspiciously like the service reminder light, which is different than the check engine light. The service reminder light comes on every 5000 miles (or so) and will illuminate for the first minute each time the ignition is turned on. It does this until you reset the light.

The service reminder light is much like an annoying alarm clock.

Are you sure it's really the check engine light?
