where to jack on the engine? 200

Boy, could this open a can of worms! Whatever you do, don't apply pressure to the oil drain plug. It can collapse and result in endless flaming on this board.

Some put a 2x4 across the flat area of the pan and use a bottle jack. I've done it a little differently. I loosen but not remove the top nut on each mount. Then I place the jack on one side of the engine under that brace which goes between the block and the bell housing. When the jack raises, the engine tilts upward on that side. I then remove that side's mount and bracket and replace the mount. Then I put the mount and bracket back on the car and tighten all except the top mount nut. I repeat on the other side. By doing one side at a time the engine will not be left unsupported should the jack slip. NEVER put your hands where they could be caught if the engine drops down!

Safety: I place a stack of 4X4 blocks under the engine to catch it should it fall. Just some insurance. Somewhere in the 700/900 FAQs is a section on tools. In there is a plan for using a wooden beam laid across the fenders which hooks to that front engine lifting ring. This is used to raise the engine for replacing the mounts. Be careful.
