After getting a look at things, it looks like the same problem. The pushrod/piston had travelled too far out of the bore and jammed. The cylinder bore, piston and seal look great but the plastic cap on the pushrod has a bit of wear.
Is the cap (or pushrod with cap) available separate from the slave cylinder assembly? I may try your nut fix but only if I can't find the proper serviceable part.
As the rod jammed and was under pressure from the clutch spring I had to mangle the cylinder's retaining clip to get the assembly out. I tied off the clutch actuator arm to keep from shooting the thing across the garage but still had to pry the clip out.
I'm going to start a new thread about the slave cylinder and parts.
Thanks for the advice, it was right on the money.
