My battery was recently disconnected and the radio spelled out 'code'. I simply pushed in the four numbers and it immediately went to a radio station. The procedure may vary with model of radio and year.

I think I'll read the owner's manual a bit more carefully. I also found that the sound system has the automatice speed control for volume...
