Cheer up, a good shop will put the head right in no time. Chances are the damage to the head occured first and the headgasket just followed. Electrolysis may have damaged the head. Those gaps can be welded in. Then a clean up cut on the head will bring it all down to plane again. Failure to flush and renew the antifreeze gives electrolysis a leg up.
While the head is off I would renew the valve stem seals and the dampners on top of the valves. I would use a power wire brush to clean up the valves and then lap them. I also like to replace the exhaust manifold studs. The old studs should be soaked with PB Blaster for days and days and tapped on their end with a hammer throughout the process to facilitate the penetration.
