allowable distributor point wear, and what about black distributor cover? 1993

Hi,

I'm trying to figure how soon will I need to change my distributor cap.

What's the allowable distributor point wear on a cam-driven distributor on a B230F engine? My distributor, after cleaning (brass brush + good ole' hand), has about 1/16" wear (electroerosion) on distributor points. It's nonuninform crater-like wear. Wear on the rotor is about 1/64". Is that wear (a) way too much, (b) mariginal, or (c) sorta-kinda-will-survive? I know that the gap is comparable to spark plug gap, so that has me worried.

Another observation: that distributor (Bosch original part) has a black plastic cover that slides on top of the orange-ish distributor body. The cover has some signs of electroerosion on its side facing rear of the distributor cap. I.e. there are some smokey-black marks on that cover, and a few some rather definitive craters about 1/32" deep. It looks almost like some carbon got deposited between the cover and the cap, and some kind of electrical induction or leakage has found its way to burn the conductive path and melt/eat the plastic.

Cheers, Kuba
