There may be a shift kit out there, but I think you either have a grossly misadjusted kickdown cable, or other problems.

Try small adjustments on the kickdown cable - say 2 or 3 turns on the adjuster nuts - see if that makes a change. Without my kid's 244 auto out here I can't say which way to adjust, but simple experiments will tell you which way to go.
