Yup, I had the exact same experience on my 97 V90. Wiggle wiggle and the air servoes would go crazy. In my case it was a bad solder connection on the PCB for the common 12V supply to the solonoids. You really lucked out when you took it to a capable honest shop and they pointed you in the right direction. I know many shops and dealers would just say "oh it's the ECC computer, $1000 please".

To answer Steve's question. The bank of 6 solonoids is directly plugged into and controlled by the ECC computer module.
