Hey, I just went through this with my 960...it is caused by a loose solder joint behind the speedometer. My speedo would not register any speed though and then when I tapped the cover, it would then be fine. On my car it happened every once in while, especially when hot.



It also caused the check engine light to come on and stay on due to the lack of signal. A little different than your problem but might be related.
