Adding speed sensor to M46 for M46 conversion on '89- 200 1989

You must mean the RPM sensor.

From about 1986 and on, the M46 bell housing is cast with a thin part to knock out for use on cars with the RPM sensor. If your M46 does not have this thin spot cast into it, all you have to do is drill, saw, and file the notch in the transmission. The RPM sensor is mounted to the engine block.
