Solved! 700 1987

As good as this board is for advice, sometimes there's no substitute for poking around with a meter. I had no continuity on the yellow/white wire from the sender to the back of the instrument cluster. I found a yellow/white wire at a big grey connector underneath the driver's side strut brace. I took the plug apart and checked continuity to the gauge, yes. Checked continuity to the sender yes. Hmmm... Put the connector back together and the gauge works now. Must have been a bad connection within the plug. That's the only thing I can figure. Thanks for the reply, you actually had the problem correct, just in a different location.
