Shifter Linkage? 700

Sounds like the shifter is out of adjustment, keeping the neutral safety switch in the wrong position. You may be able to confirm this by starting the car in neutral (which it is supposed to do).
The reason for this could be a damaged shift linkage, or the bushings in it are really worn out, or, perhaps the most likely problem, a bad transmission mount. The shift linkage goes from the body of the car to the transmsision- with a bad mount, the two are out of position relative to each other. Look for a collapsed or torn rubber mount.
Good luck!
