Strut Nut 700

I looked at John Sargent's FAQ for front struts and noticed no mention of the strut piston center flat head. The reason I ask is that I have new Bilsteins and it comes only with the nut and not the center flat head. Is there a transfer from the OEM strut to the new strut and if there is no transfer how does the piston prevent itself from turning as I tighten the nut??
